Thanks, @baris, for the pointers- very interesting to me, from admin perspective -but still: i am at a loss to find help for the "naive user" (non-technical) coming into NodeBB cold (literally! my community members are farmers and other such land stewards), feeling overwhelmed by all the features on display and not knowing where to begin.
Compare this experience to that of the new Discourse user, who is greeted on arrival by an introductory DM from the "Discobot", with some helpful Getting Started tips on how to browse, like & reply, create a profile, post an introductory message, etc... Awarding points for each of these little challenges met, gamifying the process of working one's way up the Trust Levels to become a valued member of the community before you know it.
I don't know (having no experience of node.js development myself), but i suspect that such a feature would not be so difficult to create... And it would do much to mitigate the one big weakness i see in NodeBB vs Discourse, as i try to view both objectively through the eyes of a new user.
Would love to engage in the development effort, if there be any coders out there willing to take up the challenge!
