Solais
Optimized for desktop (due to the high graphics and audio requirements). However, you can play up until the end credits in browser. Thank you for playing our game!
Solais
Step into the unforgiving landscape of WWII Scotland as a Scottish Lighthouse Keeper. Your duty is not just to maintain the light, but to guard your family against German attacks and the encroaching horrors of war.
Solais is a narrative-driven game with multiple endings, taking its dramatic foundation from the tragic real-life events at the Fair Isle Lighthouse. Balance survival with duty through five engaging minigames and an immersive atmosphere.
We pride ourselves on originality: All art, music, voice overs, writing, and programming is Gen-AI free and created by our team. In addition, no premade assets were used in this game.
Gameplay
Controls
On your first day in Solais, you will be guided through new mechanics in tutorial mode .
- Movement: Navigate the lighthouse interior using standard WASD or the Arrow Keys.
- Interaction: Most object interaction is handled with the E Key and R Key.
- Navigation: Press M to view the Map of the lighthouse, or select the corresponding icon on screen.
- Task Management: Check your tasks with the Q Key or by selecting the task menu to review your current objectives.
- Dialogue: Advance conversation with any input (e.g., Spacebar, Enter, or Mouse Click).
- Minigames: All five core minigames are designed for intuitive engagement using simple click and/or drag mechanics. Every new mechanic is accompanied by a clear, non-intrusive guide.
Note: Save functionality only works if downloaded, not in browser.
Storyline
Solais's storyline takes place over the course of 5 in-game days. Through dialogue and decisions, you can obtain one of two different endings. Remember, choose carefully. The fate of your family is in your hands.
GitHub GameOff
This game was made in one month as a submission for the 2025 GitHub GameOff.
Theme Interpretation
Our team was excited to hear the theme of "waves" announced. We embraced the interpretation of the literal waves of the ocean by setting the scene on the harsh Scottish coastline. However, we managed to incorporate the theme in a couple of other ways as well. The title of our game, Solais, is Scottish Gaelic for "light." And while the quantum physics enthusiast on our team points out that light has a wave-partical duality, the concept of light waves was central to our design. Lastly, as a bonus, one of our minigames is very wave-oriented, as you'll find out (we won't give away the fun yet)!
Our Team
Our main team was composed of 7 very talented individuals. We had 1 project manager, 1 writer, 2 programmers, 2 artists, and 1 composer. Though, like with most indie games, everyone involved wore multiple hats. We also had the pleasure of working with 3 voice actors and 1 independent musician.

Great work guys! Very happy to see this one come to fruition after all the tantalizing art posted on the community discord during the jam. :) Nice work
Very satisfying to play, interesting visuals and the map on the side is neat. I made a couple bad calls with the light, but at least I make great soup!
The game looks great! I only played for a few minutes because I don’t have time right now, but it already looks amazing and you can really feel the effort and love put into it.
It looks really good, I can't wait to play it!!
Thanks so much! It's out now and we'd love your feedback.
