chore(rust): standardize strip = true across all Rust crates #177

Open

Description

Description

Standardize strip = true in [profile.release] across all Rust crates to reduce container image size and prevent debug symbol leakage in production binaries. Currently only video-to-gif sets this explicitly; the other 9 crates ship with default debug symbols in release builds.

The CI env var override (#168) provides the alternative build path when debug information is needed for diagnostics or profiling.

Acceptance Criteria

Implementation Guidance

Add to each crate's Cargo.toml that does not already have it:

[profile.release]
strip = true

Crates to update (9 of 10 — video-to-gif already has this):

  • src/500-application/500-basic-inference/
  • src/500-application/501-rust-telemetry/
  • src/500-application/502-rust-http-connector/
  • src/500-application/503-media-capture-service/
  • src/500-application/505-event-processor/
  • src/500-application/506-open-telemetry-collector/
  • src/500-application/507-ai-inference/
  • src/500-application/508-ai-edge-inference-crate/
  • src/900-tools-utilities/900-mqtt-tools/

Verify with cargo build --release that the output binary has no debug sections:

file target/release/<binary_name>
# Should show "stripped" or "not stripped" accordingly

    Hi Bill Berry (@WilliamBerryiii),

I've submitted a PR to address this. I updated 7 active Rust crates across the application modules.

Note: I've skipped paths 500, 505, 506, and 900 as they either lack a Cargo.toml or are no longer present in this branch. Detailed mapping and verification results are included in the PR description.

    Thanks!

Apologies, didn't realize this issue was already addressed. Will delete to avoid redundancy.
