TypeError can't concat memoryview to bytearray

Attempting to run pip on Jython 2.7.1, I run into the error reported in pypa/pip#5296.

Traceback points at msgpack as the culprit. Here's the tail of it:

It would be nice to see this fixed, as jython is hobbled without a working pip.

I don't use Java and Jython.
Would you make a pull request to add Jython environment to Travis-CI?

Seems like Jython is quite dead TBH, the official page was last updated 3 years ago: http://www.jython.org/

I don't want support Jython officially. Actually speaking, I want to drop Python 2 support in next few years.
But if #304 help you, I'll merge it at now.

I agree with you on both points, but I suggest allowing the community who use jython (by choice, or by requirement) to setup patches and merge them?

Python 2 will see its EOL soon enough, then support for Python 2 can stop. It might be nice to maintain a hotfix branch - again for community members who use it professionally and can't change yet.

Personally, I use java based products which allow for a Jython interface, and there is just more staff out there who can do sufficient python - but not so much groovy/java.

That's my $0.02, but in truth I am speaking 100% selfishly and personally that is.
