on Oct 3, 2026 Yes, the policy change is that the Python install manager is the way to install Python now. You can also find it in the store, and it includes the latest version of Python (currently 3.14, switching to 3.15 in a week or so) without needing any further downloads.
The old versions will be hidden from search as they reach end of life - direct links will continue to work, but of course we would hope that people will use the install manager (and use
py install 3.13etc. to install earlier versions). But in your new policy, I think Microsoft store could not update python automatically
Am I correct?
Correct, the runtime itself won't be updated automatically (though you can set up
py install -uas a scheduled task to do it - I have this on some of my own machines and it works great, and yes, it safely handles if Python is running at the time). If you install the install manager through the Store (or through the MSIX on the web site) then that will be updated automatically. It's independent from any runtime installs though.
So some of Microsoft Store functionality (check for new version, and update to new version) implement again by python install manager
and some Windows / Microsoft Store native feature (like update history, update available notification) misses
That's basically accurate, yes, though we have also managed to avoid a significant number of limitations added by the Store (technically the AppModel, but that's enforced by being in the Store). Some libraries that would not work with a Store installed runtime (like tensorflow) may work again now.
We've also drastically simplified our publishing process. Publishing new packages into the Store was slow and a very manual process that could not be automated. We don't have to do that anymore for runtime updates (only install manager updates), so from our perspective it's a much better process that helps us release updates faster.
Update history is an interesting request that we might be able to add - is that something specific that you would like? How would you expect it to work, and what information would it provide?

Background
I have using Python on Windows from Microsoft Store (and it is very simple and handy for updating and installing)
But recently I see does not publish Python 3.14 on Store
As you can see only Python 3.12 and 3.13 exist
My Question is Where is Python 3.14? Has there been a change in policy?
thanks
