SIU actively engages its community through student-led sustainability societies and outreach projects for the local community, including health, education, and community engagement initiatives such as its Smoke-Free Project. Campus services include healthy and affordable food, physical and mental health support, and comprehensive disability support. Governance structures include a Sustainable Development Committee with executive leadership representation, a Green University Committee, an EDI office, and an ethics and compliance office. Through joining HESI, SIU seeks to deepen international collaboration and share good practices in advancing the 2030 Agenda.
