Ian Shiland
Basemaps Team Lead at Vantor
About
I've been building geospatial software for more than a decade, mostly data pipelines, catalogs, APIs and web maps.
I trained as a geographer (M.A., University at Albany) and started my career in government, first for the State of New Jersey and then the City of New York, building geospatial tools and applications for environmental planning, health and housing. From there I moved to the private sector, working on federal contracts supporting GeoPlatform.gov and SEC.gov. Today I lead the Basemaps team at Vantor.
I mostly write Python, TypeScript and SQL.
I live in Upstate New York with my wife and two kids.
