Call for papers: Special Issue on "FS 2025: Future Fibers for Intelligence, Health, and Sustainability"

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced new materials are reshaping daily life, heralding a new era of intelligent systems. Meanwhile, pressing global challenges in health, well-being, and sustainability have thrust fibers and fiber-based materials into the spotlight as an exciting frontier of innovation. With their exceptional versatility, these materials are unlocking groundbreaking possibilities to drive smart technologies, revolutionize healthcare solutions, and foster environmental sustainability. Among them, future fibers are emerging as a transformative force at the convergence of intelligence, health, and sustainability, charting a path toward a more connected and sustainable future.

This special issue, themed "Future Fibers for Intelligence, Health, and Sustainability," will feature 10–15 peer-reviewed contributions showcasing original breakthrough research, comprehensive reviews, perspectives, or highlights that advance the field of fiber-based materials and their applications. The scope of this special issue is broad, encompassing from cutting-edge research to translational applications that demonstrate the future potential of fibers in intelligent systems, health solutions, and sustainable development. Contributions are welcome from all researchers in the field of fibers.

The Fiber Society Spring 2025 Spring Conference will take place from May 21–23, 2025, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in Kowloon, Hong Kong, CHINA. Outstanding talks presented at the conference will be invited to submit extended versions to this Special Issue, with potential fast-track review. This provides an excellent opportunity for conference participants to showcase their work in a high-impact journal, ensuring broader dissemination and recognition.

• Accepted articles will be published immediately in Advanced Fiber Materials and will be included in the Special Issue on “Future Fibers for Intelligence, Health, and Sustainability” after March 31, 2026.
