Emerging and Personalised Approaches to Myopia Prevention and Management

Participating journal: Ophthalmology and Therapy

Myopia is highly prevalent globally and represents a major public health challenge due to its long-term implications for ocular health and vision. In the absence of a cure, and with treatment often beginning in childhood and continuing until at least adolescence, there is an increasing need for effective, evidence-based, and individualised management strategies. Advances in our understanding of myopia onset, progression, and risk stratification are driving a shift toward more personalised and proactive approaches aimed at slowing progression and reducing the risk of later complications associated with high myopia and visual impairment. This topical collection aims to highlight emerging strategies to myopia management, encompassing pharmacological treatments, optical and light-based therapies, lifestyle and environmental modifications, and practical recommendations for patient care. Contributions will integrate clinical, real‑world, and translational evidence to help guide ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals in treating patients with myopia and to guide future research.
