Capitol Corridor projects help improve service, make travel safer, and connect more communities across Northern California.
Current Projects
Alviso Railroad Adaptation Planning Study
This study looks at ways to protect the railroad between Albrae and Alviso from rising sea levels.
The study will consider future passenger and freight rail needs while protecting nearby wetlands and the surrounding estuary. It builds on an earlier alternatives study completed in 2020.
The Agnew Siding project is located south of Santa Clara Great America Station on the Coast Subdivision. It would add 2,900 feet of track, two power turnouts, signal improvements, and other site work.
The project would reduce passenger and freight train delays and support more reliable service and increased ridership.
New Carquinez Cross Study
This study looks at options for replacing the existing Suisun Bay lift bridge with a new high-level bridge.
A new bridge could reduce delays for Capitol Corridor and other passenger trains. It could also support more service between Sacramento and Oakland.
This proposed facility would improve connections near the Ardenwood Park and Ride and the future Ardenwood rail station.
New bus platforms on State Route 84 would allow buses to stop on the highway. Passengers would use stairs or an elevator connect to the platforms of the future rail station.
South Bay Connect would change the train route between Oakland and Newark by adding a new station with connections to Dumbarton transit service.
The project could reduce travel time between Oakland and Santa Clara by about 15 minutes, reduce traffic, and make it easier to travel throughout the region.
Link21 is a regional rail program led by the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) in cooperation with the State Transportation Agency to plan a new transbay rail crossing.
