Playwright vs Selenium in 2026 is no longer a “which is better” debate. It’s a trade-off discussion. Both tools are still widely used in production systems today and both solve real problems at scale. Selenium has proven itself over years of enterprise use: broad language support, massive ecosystem and deep integration into existing QA infrastructure. Playwright represents a newer model: tighter browser control, strong developer experience and modern defaults for speed, parallelism and debugging. In real-world usage, the differences are less about capability and more about context: - Existing test infrastructure vs greenfield projects - Long-term maintenance vs faster iteration cycles - Standardization vs modern tooling ergonomics - Team familiarity vs developer productivity In our benchmarks across real environments, neither tool “wins” outright.
