The Bride (Uma Thurman) picks up where she left off in volume one with her quest to finish the hit list she has composed of all the people who have wronged her, including ex-boyfriend Bill (David Carradine), who tried to have her killed four years ago during her wedding to another man. Leaving several dead in her wake, she eventually tracks down Bill in Mexico. Using skills she has learned during her assassin career, she attempts to finish what she set out to do in the first place.

Critics Consensus

Kill Bill: Volume 2 adds extra plot and dialogue to the action-heavy exploits of its predecessor, while still managing to deliver a suitably hard-hitting sequel.

n the hyper-kinetic Kill Bill 1 you didn't know when the end happened, in Vol 2 you often wish the proceedings could hurtle to the finale, fast.

Vol. 2 fills in the motivational and emotional blanks that left the first movie tasting like a meal made only of appetizers.

I don't even want to do Tarantino and his pathetic accomplices the honour of recounting the narrative of the second "volume" of this exercise in trashpedalling, and frankly I don't need to, because there isn't a plot to speak of.

...Volume 2 is very different—in tone, textures, and rhythms—from its predecessor: here, the violence progresses towards minimalism, while the characters shed their abstract skin so that their souls can grow (and overflow). [Full review in Spanish]

It might be the more indulgent volume, but its willingness to explore the complex heart beneath the carnage makes it essential viewing and a journey well worth revisiting.

As in many Tarantino films, his dialogue is never really specific to characters. It’s Tarantino’s world and everyone in it basically speaks the same way. But incredible actors like Thurman manage to make the lines her own.

It's Okay but Not Interesting as The First One but a Unique Unique World with a Variety of Characters but I Felt Ending was Underutilized But a Beginning was Very Decent

*Kill Bill: Vol. 2* trades some of its predecessor's blood-soaked lunacy for something richer, stranger and surprisingly emotional. Quentin Tarantino delivers a magnificent collision of spaghetti westerns, Shaw Brothers kung fu and operatic revenge. Uma Thurman is extraordinary, while David Carradine brings haunting charisma to Bill. Michael Madsen's Budd is wonderfully pathetic, Daryl Hannah's Elle Driver is pure venom, and Gordon Liu's Pai Mei nearly steals the entire picture. Robert Richardson's cinematography is gorgeous, Sally Menke's editing is razor-sharp, and the fight choreography remains spectacular. The buried-alive sequence alone is a masterclass in suspense. But beneath the violence lies a story about love, betrayal, motherhood and the terrible cost of vengeance. It's funny, brutal, unexpectedly tender and unmistakably Tarantino.
