“The Cycle” loads up on gore and some grossout scenes (those maggots gave me the heebie-jeebies) and keeps us on edge throughout, and then throws everything his limited budget can for a bloody, satisfying finale. Go to Full Review

It’s a shame that the hardcore creature-feature stuff is a letdown because the drama leading up to it isn’t bad. Go to Full Review

Based on his resume, you might not expect Jordan Downey to make a movie as deathly serious as The Cycle. But he’s done exactly that, and quite successfully so, with this grim and gruesome blend of serial-killer thriller and supernatural horror. Go to Full Review

The Cycle is just different enough to feel relatively fresh, and it delivers on both the procedural and horror fronts. Go to Full Review

...a movie that features an engaging mystery with a surprising emotional core and a go-for-the-jugular payoff that delivers in spades for horror fans. And all from a filmmaker with a genre-bending vision and the cinematic knowhow to pull it off. Go to Full Review

What seems like a standard, if interesting, police procedural eventually becomes a worthy entry in a particular subgenre that has too often failed to develop new blood and thrills to its ancient mythology. Go to Full Review

Samuel F @Sgt_Random 36 min ago Outstanding take on horror lore. See more Andrew H @RT61079588 4 hrs ago Genuinely incredible. I didn’t see the twist coming. I didn’t expect this movie to be as good as it was at all. Fantastic practical effects, fantastic script, great acting, great direction, great looking – this is a 6 out of 5 movie that deserves all of the awards. Can’t wait to see more from the director. See more Darren D @DarrenJD 14 hrs ago "The Cycle" is the perfect definition of going in blind before seeing the film. It’s a slow-burn, engaging murder mystery with a surprising emotional core that breathes new life into a classic horror subgenre. Jordan Downey’s direction is confident. Having directed "Stork", one of the best segments in the V/H/S franchise, Downey gives his film a ghostly atmosphere and a deep supernatural mythology that ties together neatly. Any horror fan like myself will appreciate the blood-soaked crime scenes and the wonderful bone-crunching, gruesome practical effects. None of it feels wasted on screen. Deborah Ann Woll gives an excellent leading performance, holding her own in the horror genre. The supporting cast is solid, with Jeffrey Donovan bringing plenty of experience. See more Craig W @CJWolfe27 18 hrs ago Pleasant surprise considering I had no clue what it was about before I started watching it See more Rod G @RT19687189 21 hrs ago The movie is good and entertaining. However, the use of constant tone music throughout is very distracting. Using suspense music for nearly every scene takes away from the moments where it becomes useful. The special effects were fun. See more Beth W @Bethinnola 1 day ago The concepts in this movie had a ton of potential, but it fell flat and I had a hard time staying interested. The practical effects were great, but the writing was pretty meh. See more Read all reviews
