Angular 20.3.7 → 22.1.6, Nx 23.1.2 → 23.2.1, TypeScript 5.9.3 → 6.0.3, Node 22.22.2 → 24.21.0, Analog 1.22.1 → 2.7.2.

Angular is upgraded in two commits rather than one jump: the 21 migration collections of @angular/core and @schematics/angular are dropped from the 22 packages, so going 20 → 22 directly would silently skip 10 migrations (control-flow-migration, application-config-core, update-module-resolution, …).

Verified

build 34/34 · test 35/35 · lint 39/39 · format:check · sync:check — every gate ci-cd.yml runs except e2e-ci, which was run manually (see below).

Three things worth a deliberate look

1. TypeScript 6, not 7. Angular 22 requires typescript >=6.0 <6.1. TS 7.0.2 is "latest" on npm but Angular rejects it.

2. allowScripts is new in package.json. npm 11.19 (which comes with Node 24) blocks dependency install scripts by default. The 13 entries restore exactly what npm 10 did unconditionally, so this is not a tightening — but it is now explicit in the repo. Version-pinned entries (nx@23.2.1, lmdb@3.5.6) go stale on every bump; the fix is npm install-scripts approve <pkg>, which prunes the old entry. If a build breaks oddly after a dependency bump, check npm install-scripts ls first.

3. Linting got stricter in two places that were previously invisible. angular-eslint 22 removed the eslintrc shareable configs, so 22 project configs move to @nx/eslint-plugin's flat configs. Those pull in templateAccessibility (the eslintrc variant did not), and ui-kit had been replacing the recommended rule set wholesale. Seven real violations surfaced and are fixed rather than suppressed: <button> instead of <a> for click handlers, aria-level and an image text alternative, and an @Output no longer named after a DOM event.

Two latent bugs this surfaced

  • nx-aws-cdk-v2: stacks was typed string[] while schema.json declares a string and executor.util checks typeof === 'string'. And projects[context.projectName] indexed with a possibly-undefined key, which collapsed the expression to any and silenced every error downstream. A resolveProjectPaths() helper now replaces the four duplicated blocks and fails loudly instead of yielding undefined paths.
  • Both Analog dev servers were dead on arrival after the Analog 2 upgrade (Unterminated string literal in @angular-devkit/core). Analog 2's auto-discover-deps plugin crawls every package with an fesm module, reaching @angular/fire — which declares its ng add schematics as runtime dependencies, dragging the devkit into the browser dependency optimization. Fixed by excluding the three schematics-only packages from optimizeDeps.

Deliberately skipped

  • use-application-builder for the webpack/Module Federation apps — it cannot convert those builders, and the output-path change belongs in its own PR. ws-thanos-test-app was the one convertible project and is migrated here.
  • @angular/fire has no Angular 21+ release, so its Angular peers are pinned via overrides, the same way akita-ng-fire already was. Verified end to end against a real Firestore emulator: the live-chat e2e specs read and write successfully under Angular 22.

CI risks

  • First run on Node 24. .nvmrc drives setup-node, so this is also the first live test of the allowScripts gate and of the gl native build under the new ABI. The install-deps action already carries the -include stdint.h workaround and the mesa packages, so it should pass — but that is reasoned, not observed.
  • rollapolla-analog live-chat e2e will likely fail, unrelated to this PR. Those specs need the Firestore emulator; the emulate target is not wired into e2e-ci and no workflow starts one. They pass locally with the emulator running.

e2e, run manually

Chromium only — the host is Ubuntu 26.04 while @playwright/test is pinned at 1.56.1, so Firefox and WebKit binaries will not launch (libicu*.so.74). Results: pacetrainer 10/10, ws-thanos-test-app 6/6, angular-examples 1/1, both remotes 1/1, rollapolla-analog 4/5 — the one failure is a toHaveScreenshot baseline differing by 5 pixels (0.01%) from font rendering.

Angular must be upgraded one major at a time: the 21 migration collections
(@angular/core, @schematics/angular) are dropped from the 22 packages, so a
direct 20 -> 22 jump would silently skip them. This is the first of two steps.

- @angular/* 20.3.7 -> 21.2.23, CLI/devkit 21.2.24, Material/CDK 21.2.14
- angular-eslint 21.4.0, ng-packagr 21.2.7, custom-webpack 21.1.0
- jest-preset-angular 17.0.0, Storybook 10.6.0
- ran 10 of 12 migrations; skipped two that do not apply here:
  - use-application-builder: crashes on this workspace and can only convert
the browser builders, not the webpack/Module Federation setup
  - bootstrap-options-migration: cannot parse the mergeApplicationConfig()
argument form, and there are no ngZone bootstrap options to migrate
- reverted the moduleResolution change the migration made to nx-aws-cdk-v2:
bundler is invalid next to module node16 (TS5095/TS5109) and node16 is
correct for a published Node plugin
- dropped MAT_TOOLTIP_SCROLL_STRATEGY_FACTORY_PROVIDER, removed in Material 21;
the token now carries the same reposition strategy as a providedIn root default
- three selectors that equal their lint prefix now carry a targeted disable
rather than being renamed; wsThanos is published API of @wolsok/thanos

Node moves 22.22.2 -> 24.21.0 (.nvmrc drives CI). Two consequences:
- npm 11.19 blocks dependency install scripts by default, so package.json now
carries an allowScripts field; approving all matches the npm 10 behaviour
- gl (native dep of gpu.js) ships no Node 24 prebuild and its bundled ANGLE no
longer compiles under GCC 15, so its install script is denied. It is only the
Node headless-GL path; nothing in this repo builds or tests against it

Second and final step of the Angular upgrade. Angular 22 requires
typescript >=6.0 <6.1, so TS goes to 6.0.3 — not 7.x, which Angular rejects.

- @angular/* 22.1.6, CLI/devkit 22.1.8, Material/CDK 22.1.6
- nx 23.2.1, angular-eslint 22.5.0, ng-packagr 22.1.1, Analog 2.7.2
- typescript 5.9.3 -> 6.0.3, typescript-eslint 8.70.0
- ran all 14 Angular 22 migrations plus the 4 Nx 23.2.0 ones; skipped
use-application-builder again (it only converts the browser builders and
would change output paths, which belongs in its own change)
- @angular/fire has no Angular 21+ release, so its Angular peers are pinned
via overrides, the same way akita-ng-fire already was

TypeScript 6 fallout:
- tsconfig.base.json drops the deprecated baseUrl (TS5101) and makes the 29
path mappings relative to the config instead; nothing resolved bare
libs/ or apps/ specifiers through baseUrl
- the four ts-jest projects set module/moduleResolution node16 (TS5107).
ts-jest emits CommonJS either way; node16 just avoids the deprecated
  node10 resolution
- nx-aws-cdk-v2 had 12 type errors, two of them real bugs that an
  implicit any had been hiding:
  - stacks was typed string[] but schema.json declares a string and
executor.util checks typeof === 'string'; the type was simply wrong
  - projects[context.projectName] indexed with a possibly-undefined key,
which made the whole expression any and silenced everything downstream.
A resolveProjectPaths() helper now replaces the four duplicated blocks
and fails loudly instead of yielding undefined paths

Other adjustments:
- two Angular 22 migrations contradicted each other on ws-thanos-test-app:
strictTemplates:false plus extendedDiagnostics is rejected as NG4003.
Dropped the diagnostics block, which is inert without strictTemplates
- @analogjs/vitest-angular 2.x declares "type": "module" but its build-test
builder imports without file extensions, so it cannot load under Node ESM.
Both Analog apps use the test builder instead; their vite.config.ts
already supplies setupFiles and include, and the test counts are unchanged
- angular-eslint 22 removed the eslintrc shareable configs, so 22 project
eslint configs move to @nx/eslint-plugin's flat configs. These are
stricter in two places that were previously invisible: the flat template
config also pulls in templateAccessibility, and ui-kit had been replacing
the recommended rule set wholesale. The seven violations that surfaced are
fixed rather than suppressed — button instead of anchor for click
handlers, aria-level and an image text alternative, and an @output no
longer named after a DOM event

Verified: build 34/34, test 35/35, lint 39/39, format:check and sync:check.

The Angular 22 migration added an extendedDiagnostics block suppressing
nullishCoalescingNotNullable and optionalChainNotNullable to 46 tsconfigs.
That is a blanket precaution against strictTemplates becoming the default,
not a response to anything in this workspace: an uncached build of all 34
projects with the suppressions removed reports no NG81xx diagnostics at all.

Removes the block from all 46 files and the angularCompilerOptions wrapper
from the 32 where it held nothing else.

Verified: build 34/34, test 35/35, lint 39/39.

Angular 22 makes fetch the default backend; the upgrade migration had added
withXhr() to keep the old one. The only HttpClient consumer reachable from
this app is mnist-data.service, which reads an arraybuffer response — no
upload progress or other option the fetch backend cannot serve. Switches to
withFetch(), matching what pacetrainer and rollapolla-analog already declare.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01UWtntsc1SXkv41A6qaXm1J
@angular-devkit/build-angular:browser is deprecated along with Angular's
webpack support. This app is the only project that could be converted — the
others run webpack with Module Federation — and nothing outside it references
its output, it has no deploy target and Playwright drives it through nx serve,
so the output path moving to dist/apps/ws-thanos-test-app/browser affects
nothing.

buildOptimizer and vendorChunk are dropped because they are webpack-only and
the application builder rejects them. @angular/build becomes an explicit
devDependency rather than being relied on through @angular-devkit/build-angular.
The lockfile also loses seven stale @nx/jest nested packages left behind by the
Nx 23.2.1 bump.

Verified: nx build, nx serve and the 6 Playwright specs all pass.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01UWtntsc1SXkv41A6qaXm1J
The pacetrainer and rollapolla-analog dev servers died on startup after the
Analog 2 upgrade:

  [ERROR] Unterminated string literal
  node_modules/@angular-devkit/core/src/utils/template.js

Analog 2 ships an analogjs-auto-discover-deps plugin that crawls every package
exposing an fesm module. That reaches @angular/fire, which declares its `ng add`
schematics — @angular-devkit/schematics and @schematics/angular — as runtime
dependencies, so the devkit is dragged into the browser dependency optimization
and esbuild trips over it. The file itself is fine: esbuild bundles it without
complaint when invoked directly, so this is specific to Vite's optimizer.

Excludes the three schematics-only packages from optimizeDeps in both apps.
They are never part of the browser bundle.

Both Analog apps pinned their Firebase Functions runtime to nodejs22 while the
toolchain moved to Node 24. nodejs24 is GA on Cloud Run functions, with
decommission scheduled for 2028-10-31 against nodejs22's 2027-10-31, so this
buys a year and aligns the runtime with .nvmrc.

The value only reaches engines.node of the generated functions package.json;
a build confirms it now emits "24". Note that nitropack 2.13.4 — the newest
release, pinned by Analog — still types the option as 22 | 20 | 18 | 16, so an
editor may flag the literal. No build target type-checks vite.config.ts.

The deploy itself is unverified here and wants a check on the next release.

Closing: this branch was cut from a stale local main (4.80.10) — I did not fetch before branching, so it never saw the ~60 commits already on origin/main. That is also why no CI ever ran: the PR is CONFLICTING, so GitHub never created a merge ref.

The divergence is not reconcilable in a reviewable way — main has since moved linting to oxlint/oxfmt (all 22 per-project eslint.config.* files this branch edits no longer exist there), migrated Module Federation to Native Federation, and already carries Nx 23.2.1.

The Angular 20 → 22 / TypeScript 6 / Node 24 work still stands on its own (origin/main is still on Angular 20.3.7). Redoing it on top of current main, without the now-obsolete ESLint part, in a fresh PR.

AngularFire 20.0.1 peerDependencies @angular/core Angular 20 official package metadata

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
The AngularFire package version 20.0.1, released on June 12, 2025 [1][2], maintains peer dependencies on Angular version 20 [3]. Specifically, the package requires the following peer dependencies: @angular/common, @angular/core, @angular/platform-browser, @angular/platform-browser-dynamic, @angular/platform-server, firebase-tools, and rxjs [4][5]. Angular 20 itself was released on May 28, 2025 [6][7][8]. While AngularFire 20.0.1 is designed to be compatible with Angular 20, users may encounter peer dependency resolution conflicts when using modern versions of npm if the installed Angular core version has been patched (e.g., 20.1.x) while the AngularFire peer dependency requirement remains pinned or strict regarding the major version [9]. In such cases, standard resolution might require --legacy-peer-deps or --force if the package manager strictly enforces exact version matching against the peer dependency definition [9].
