Rid yourself of those pesky light mode modules in your rack with Decent Skins. Over 1,000 modules from 30 brands have a more sensible color scheme offered here. Grey, purple, whatever fits your fancy as long as it's dark.
-
Make a backup copy of any plugin folders you will be updating.
-
Download the zip file from the downloads folder here and unzip it.
-
Copy/paste the Decent Skins svg files where the current files for panel backgrounds are, within in the
resfolder for each brand's plugin folder. The new files should have the same names and locations as the originals, replacing them, like this.- Find it by opening VCV Rack and right clicking on a module > info > open plugin folder, like this. Once found, close VCV Rack and paste the files.
- The file/folder structure here match that of your plugin folder, you can swap entire themes at once and all the background images will fall into place, as seen in this demo video.
-
Open VCV Rack and enjoy! (or restart if it was already running)
Why are the screws in my modules still light?
A: Screws are often baked into the plugin's code, but can be toggled on/off with Pachde's Skiff module. The files provided here are only background images.
Q: How do I revert to the default skins?
A: There are a few methods.
-
You can restore the original backup of your plugins, just put it back where it was.
-
Or you can replace the Decent Skins svg files with the original backups available in this repo. The backup you made is more recent though, and you already have that.
-
You can unsubscribe from your modules for a moment and then resubscribe to them.
In any case, restarting the VCV Rack app will cause it to notice any changes to your plugin folder or subscriptions.
Q: Are there plans for more modules coming?
A: Yes, and you can help decide what gets added by requesting a module here.
Disclaimer: If a module gets updated by it's maker, you may have to replace the default background files with Decent Skins files again.
