Description

Timestamp displays used the browser timezone even when a different timezone was saved in the user profile. For example, a creation activity displayed 20:48 with UTC selected, instead of 15:18.

Use the saved profile timezone when formatting activity, comment, page version, notification snooze, and API token timestamps. Update displays when the preference changes, handle calendar-date changes across midnight, and preserve date-only values.

Add formatter and component regression tests, with Vitest setup for the web app and utils package.

Type of Change

  • Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • Feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • Improvement (change that would cause existing functionality to not work as expected)
  • Code refactoring
  • Performance improvements
  • Documentation update

Screenshots and Media (if applicable)

Before — UTC selected After — UTC selected
Incorrect: 20:48 Correct: 15:18

Test Scenarios

  • pnpm --filter @plane/utils test — 14 tests passed.
  • pnpm --filter web test — 8 tests passed.
  • pnpm check — formatting, lint, and type checks passed.
  • Covered UTC and India timezones, midnight boundaries, daylight saving transitions, 12/24-hour formatting, invalid inputs, and preservation of date-only values.
  • Component tests verify that timestamp displays update when the observable timezone preference changes.
  • Manually verified that the original work-item creation activity displays Oct 23, 2026, 15:18 with UTC selected.

References

Fixes #10087

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Dates and times across API tokens, comments, activity feeds, notifications, and page version history now reflect your selected timezone.
    • Custom API token expiration dates are set to the end of the selected day in your timezone. Expiration details and exported dates also use that timezone, while “Never expires” labels remain unchanged.
    • Timestamp displays update when your timezone preference changes. Date-only values and daylight-saving transitions are handled more accurately.

Use the saved user timezone for activity, comment, page version,
notification, and API token timestamps. Observe preference changes
and preserve date-only values.

Add formatter and component regression tests for timezone changes,
midnight boundaries, and daylight saving transitions.

Walkthrough

Date and time formatters now accept an optional timezone. Web timestamp displays pass the current user’s timezone for activity, comments, page versions, notifications, and API token expiry. Custom API token expirations are set to the end of the selected day in that timezone. Tests cover timezone conversion and changes to the selected timezone.

Changes: Profile timezone timestamps

Timezone-aware date and time formatting
packages/utils/src/datetime.ts, packages/utils/src/datetime.test.ts, packages/utils/package.json, pnpm-workspace.yaml
renderFormattedDate and renderFormattedTime accept an optional timezone. getEndOfSelectedDay returns the end of the selected day in the requested timezone. Tests cover timezone formatting, date-only values, fallback behavior, and input preservation.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #10087 requires profile timezone formatting for activity, comment, page-version, notification-snooze, and API-token timestamps. The changed components read user?.user_timezone and pass it to the date and time formatters. The formatter preserves date-only values and handles timezone-aware dates. MobX observers update displays when the preference changes. Regression tests cover the listed surfaces and timezone changes.

⚠️ Potential issue | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Unverified concern: The snooze deadline passes only user?.user_timezone despite Issue #10087's workspace-before-browser fallback.

Validation was inconclusive.

Potential consequence: The notification can say Till Oct 23, 01:30 AM instead of Oct 22, 09:30 PM.

Condition requiring verification: Profile timezone is unset, notification workspace timezone is America/New_York, browser timezone is UTC, and snoozed_till is 2026-10-23T01:30:00Z.

52-54: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a test for the Expiry timezone in the secret-key CSV export.

downloadSecretKey passes user?.user_timezone to renderFormattedDate for the Expiry column. No test in the repository calls downloadSecretKey, renders CreateApiTokenModal, or checks the secret-key- download name. If that third argument is removed, the existing tests still pass, but the CSV shows the browser-zone calendar date instead of the profile-zone date.

Add a test that:

  • Mocks useUser to return a user_timezone that differs from the test runner's zone.
  • Mocks csvDownload from @plane/utils.
  • Submits the create-token form with a expired_at value near a local midnight boundary.
  • Asserts the Expiry value in the captured CSV object.

Comment thread apps/web/vitest.config.ts Resolved
Run the existing Turbo dependency build graph before Vitest so direct
web test runs work in fresh checkouts without generated dist files.
Interpret the selected calendar day in the profile timezone and expire
at the end of that day. Share the same instant between the preview and
submission, without adding the browser's current time.

Add regression coverage for timezone changes, midnight boundaries,
daylight saving transitions, and custom expiry validation.
