This analysis compares the 2024 and 2025 Developer Survey data across three connected stories: the evolution of AI, humans at work, and demographics and community.
AI’s impact on software engineering continues, and more and more of that AI is packaged as agents as results from our newest pulse survey show agentic usage has almost doubled (59%) since we last asked about it in our annual Developer Survey

With the promise of AI productivity gains not always coming to fruition, we wondered where developers still get frustrated.
This year, we're not just collecting data; we're reflecting on the last year of questions, answers, hallucinations, job changes, tech stacks, memory allocations, models, systems and agents—together.
In March, over 1,000 developers and technologists gave us insights into what they think about open source and the role it plays with AI.
