I have discovered $50 amazon photo frames to be the PERFECT home display screen
They can be rooted, updated to run a modern browser, have WiFi and can be powered from USB
1280×800 resolution with a nice touch screen
I detailed how to hack these yourself in my latest video
What’s so crazy about the photo frame is that I added instructions for the agent to PR all notes on hacking their frame.
I’ve had 30+ PRs now for all different type of hardware.
Its like some sort of helpful approval of service attack
After having some quick success getting the digital frame setup like @wesbos with @grok@bot while I went out for errands.I wanted to make sure it was hardened properly. If you have the Allwinner A33 Model you'll want to read this thread.
Inspired by @wesbos photo-frame project, I got @OmarchyLinux running natively on a $50 digital photo frame.
Allwinner A33, 1 GB RAM, Mali-400 GP, Arch Linux ARM booted from microSD.
I had to build a custom SD boot path, adapt Omarchy for armv7, fix display/touch rotation,
Family dashboard live and complete.
Plugged the photo frame into my laptop last night and used Codex remotely to root it, build the site, host it on my hetzner box, add some jokes and activities fun for my daughters, secure it… geeked out on the whole thing!
Thanks again
