Camping in Arizona is Our Favorite Way To Beat The Heat
What do you think of when the state of Arizona comes up in a conversation? The Saguaro Cactus? The desert sands? It's proximity to Mexico? Well, after this article, you’ll forever recall the plethora of backcountry camping in Arizona as well. And just to entertain your preconceptions a bit—most of these spots are located among desert sands. In this ever-so-red state, campers embrace the lure of cool desert lakes, majestic cacti, other plant life, and the glory of being out in a tent beneath the visible stars. In this collection, we share with you our offerings of enticing Backcountry Sites. For the sake of not seeming too repetitive, however, we’ve included a Partner Site in the mix. Enjoy these, and see which one draws you in most! Cowboy’s Starry Night Up first we have Cowboy’s Starry Night. This camping in Arizona is located just east of Lake Havasu, a notorious destination for boating, fishing, swimming, water-skiing—basically any water sport imaginable. In these parts, you’ll feel among the history of cowboys who used to roundup their cattle and ride off into the sunset (cinematic, we know). These are the high deserts of Arizona, where silver/gold mining is accessible and historical war artifacts are on heavy display. Camp itself majestic—pure, desert tranquility! Set up your tent and go out hiking, biking, riding, or fishing for the day. Or, simply enjoy the peaceful desertscape. Desert Sanctuary at Rincon Peak Campsite 2 South of Tucson, this site at Rincon Peak is really an oasis-like paradise (amazing sunsets and expansive starry skies included). This place is rich in history, for it contains the site of the Sri Ashram founded by famous Harvard Professor Timothy Leary. Within the restored buildings you’ll find a pottery studio and prayer house. The camp itself, despite being a Backcountry Site, includes outdoor showers (hot and cold water), a game room (billiards and card table), fire pits, an Olympic pool, a hot tub, and an area for barbecuing. Aside from tent camping, cottage rentals are also on offer. This is an epic choice for camping in Arizona! Stagecoach Stellar Glamping Ready for the Tentrr Partner Site we promised? Here goes! While our backcountry sites usually come with very little amenities, our Partner Sites are privately owned glampsites that usually contain modern amenities located on the property. In the case of Stagecoach Stellar Glamping, you’ll have a canvas tent, comfy bed, ice chest, picnic bench, adirondack chairs, and some small coffee tables. The site itself is located on the same land as Cowboy’s Starry Night. Thus, expect Havasu to be in easy reach with plenty of access to hiking, fishing, riding, and boating. Heart of the Parks Heart of the Parks earned its name for its unique location right between Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante, Horseshoe bend, and more! This Arizona camping offers privacy, sunset views, red bluffs, and good memories all around! Your CampKeeper Colt is a family man who loves camping and can't wait to have you! Note that he offers these extra amenities for an extra fee: kayaks for two, firewood, and a tandem bike for riding around the local lake. Zen Canyon Ranch Our final Arizona camping offering is the Zen Canyon Ranch, located between Kingman and Flagstaff. Another place for high-desert dwelling, Zen Canyon doesn’t fall short of peace, privacy, wildlife, and evening stars. Another perk of this spot is being pretty off-grid while maintaining a close vicinity to resources and activities. Lake Havasu isn’t too far, and Laughlin is another choice to visit for some campers here. Your site is among miles of trails, pinion pines, and ancient juniper forests. Your CampKeeper, Tim, offers extra amenities for a fee including RV space, glamping in a tiny home, and linens.

The Best of The Poconos: Camping, Sights, and Hikes
Any reference to camping in PA would be incomplete without mentioning the Pocono Mountains. Poconos camping is some of the best in the nation, especially when the sunny days and cool evenings of summer come along. The area is overflowing with trails and the incredibly scenic views are around every corner. Luckily, visitors have plenty of camping options to choose from, including tent sites, RV parks, tent cabins, and luxurious glamping spots. Several campgrounds in the area are located near (or on) the water. That’s why we’ve chosen to highlight ones with plenty of water activities available. We recommend three camping destinations as an introduction to Poconos camping, each with an array of outdoors adventure destinations and nearby hiking trails. Retreat on Bear Creek The nature of the Poconos is one of the region’s greatest treasures—and for campers looking to get back in touch with that nature while sleeping in comfort, the tent cabins at Retreat on Bear Creek offer just that. On this private retreat, campers can enjoy a private swimming hole, a hike to a private waterfall or a chance to relax in a hammock. This tent is surrounded by over 400 privately owned acres of natural forests with several miles of marked trails. The campsite is adjoined by Lehigh Gorge State Park and PA State Game Lands, while remaining a hidden gem of the Poconos. Whippoorwill Woods For campers interested in even more comfort without much setup, the camp keepers at Whippoorwill Woods in the Poconos are there for you. Amenities include a queen-sized bed with one bedding setup, a crate of firewood and 2 firestarters, a trail map of the area and connections to public lands, a hammock and an outdoor shower stall. Situated just outside Jim Thorpe, this cozy camping getaway in the heart of the Poconos will keep you entertained and comfortable. Otter Lake Camp-Resort Otter Lake Camp-Resort is an ideal family destination located in the heart of the Poconos. On 300 wooded acres, this camp offers a full-service campground with pull-thru RV spaces, cabins and lake swimming. The beach is a great place to kick your feet up for a full day of relaxation, or you can head over there after a hike on one of the nearby trails. This camp is definitely the perfect hub for families, with horseshoes, playgrounds, swimming pool, hot tub and convenience store (to name just a few). This is resort style camping and Otter Lake offers plenty to do, but the immediate vicinity holds even more adventure. Visitors here can enjoy river trips through an outfitter called Adventure Sports, either guided or unguided outings. Options include multi-day trips on the scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation area in canoes, kayaks or rafts. There are too many destinations to list near Otter Lake--including a ski resort with festivals nearly every week, a water park, and excellent trail riding on horse or by bicycle. Lehigh Gorge Lehigh Gorge is just off route 80, easy to get to but incredibly peaceful. This resort style campground has fewer frills than Otter Lake, but also offers either tent or RV camping. Lehigh Gorge is a family-run gem situated on the wild Lehigh river, and a Poconos camping favorite for decades. The area offers extensive access to hiking trails, river recreation, and horseback riding. It’s also a perfect place to kick back with volleyball on-site or disc golf five minutes away. Like Otter Lake, this campground can be a destination in itself. The Lehigh Gorge area is known for its commercial river rafting, either half or full day group trips. Explore the river and surf class II and III rapids on a guided tour that is easy to book once you reach your glamp site.
