One year of Hope Rides: Helping survivors reach safety, care, and support

One year ago, Uber and Alliance for HOPE International launched Hope Rides with a simple goal: help survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking reach the support they need when transportation is a barrier.

Through this partnership, Uber provides free ride credits to participating Family Justice Centers, which offer trauma-informed services to survivors and their children. Family Justice Centers bring advocates, legal support, law enforcement, counseling, medical services, and other resources together in one place, making it easier for survivors to access support without needing to navigate multiple systems alone.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate the impact of Hope Rides’ first year: more than 3,000 rides and 30,000 miles traveled to help survivors across the country reach safety, access critical services, attend court hearings, secure protective orders, connect with counseling, and begin their journey toward healing.

Every day, Family Justice Centers across the country help survivors navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives. By bringing services together under one roof, they reduce barriers, increase safety, and create pathways to hope and healing for survivors and their children.

Building on the success of the first year, we’re excited to expand Hope Rides to reach even more survivors and families across the country. In just one year, we are growing Hope Rides from a pilot serving 18 Family Justice Centers in 11 states to a national initiative supporting 30 Family Justice Centers across 17 states.

Expanding access to safety and healing

Transportation is often one of the most overlooked barriers for survivors seeking help. Without a reliable way to get to an appointment, shelter, court, or a Family Justice Center, survivors may be forced to delay care, miss critical services, or remain in unsafe situations.

“Transportation should never determine whether someone can access safety, justice, or healing,” said Catherine Johnson, President & CEO of Alliance for HOPE International. “Hope Rides is helping remove one of the most significant barriers survivors face and ensuring that more individuals and families can access the support they deserve.”

If I didn’t have a way to get there, I don't know if I would have ever reached out for help. That ride made it possible for me to take my first step toward safety.

Supporting children and families impacted by violence

As Hope Rides enters its second year, Uber and Alliance for HOPE are also exploring ways to support families impacted by domestic violence.

Through a new pilot tied to Camp HOPE America’s Pathways to Hope Project, Uber will provide free rides in two cities to participating Family Justice Centers to help families participate in year-round mentoring and programming that builds on their summer camp experience.

Camp HOPE America is Alliance for HOPE’s evidence-based summer camp and mentorship program for children and teens impacted by trauma and domestic violence. The Pathways to Hope Project provides year-round mentorship and monthly activities focused on personal growth, education, and nature, helping young people build resilience, achieve goals, and create brighter futures.

For many families, transportation challenges can prevent them from consistently participating in mentoring, educational opportunities, and positive youth development programs. By reducing those barriers, Hope Rides helps ensure that healing, connection, and hope remain accessible long after summer camp ends.

Part of Uber’s broader commitment to safety

Hope Rides is part of Uber’s broader commitment to helping improve safety for women and vulnerable communities, both on and off the platform. Across our work, we continue to invest in technology, safety features, education, and partnerships with trusted organizations that help support safer outcomes. Through Hope Rides, that commitment extends to helping survivors reach trusted, trauma-informed services when transportation is standing in the way.

I didn’t have to rely on anyone else or put myself at risk to get help. This made me feel a sense of independence and control again.

One year in, we’re proud of the impact this partnership has made, and grateful to Alliance for HOPE International and Family Justice Centers across the country for their leadership, trust, and daily work supporting survivors and families.
