More options for seniors

Staying independent means having the freedom to get where you need to go, in the way that works for you. And as we age, that can mean different things to different people.

When we first introduced senior accounts, we focused on older adults who wanted help from family to manage their rides. Since then, we’ve heard from seniors who want an experience that’s tailored to their needs, while continuing to manage their rides independently.

That’s why we’re expanding senior accounts to offer more independence and choice that help make trips easier for riders and drivers. Starting today, older adults can set up a senior account on their own – or continue to use one connected to a Family organizer – and customize their pickup experience based on their needs.

Uber senior accounts offer independence or family support, with features like larger text, live support, and easy entry vehicles.
Customizable features, all in one place

Whether you need a little extra help finding the car or simply larger text on the phone, senior accounts can be customized based on individual needs:

  • Simple mode: An easier-to-navigate app experience with larger text and clearer icons to help make requesting rides smoother.
  • Pickup preferences: Riders can now tell drivers how they’d like them to signal their arrival, such as calling or messaging at pickup, honking their horn, or flashing their lights.
  • Optional self-identification: Seniors can choose to let drivers know they’re an older adult. If enabled, this information will appear in the driver app as they approach the pickup spot.

Sharing this information with drivers can help streamline the pickup experience. A driver will better understand a rider’s needs before they arrive, whether that means allowing a little more time to reach the car or being more mindful during the pickup. And because self-identification is optional, riders are always in control of whether they share this information.

Easy entry vehicles

In 9 cities we’re piloting a new easy entry vehicle feature designed to help riders – like seniors or people with disabilities – who may have difficulty getting in and out of certain vehicles. When turned on, Uber will look for vehicles with a low step-in height for easier entry and added confidence.

We listened closely to accessibility and aging advocates as we developed the feature, incorporating their feedback to help make it impactful for riders with a range of mobility needs. Easy entry vehicles are available to all riders in the pilot cities through their Accessibility settings, in addition to being customizable through the senior account settings.

More choice for every ride

Everyone has different needs when it comes to getting around. Whether it’s an older adult who wants a more tailored trip experience or a rider who needs a vehicle that’s easier to get in and out of, these updates are about giving people more ways to make Uber work for them. We’ll continue to build an experience that gives riders more choice, flexibility, and confidence every time they ride.
