Models

  • This example demonstrates how to add and customize 3D models within Photorealistic 3D Maps using the Maps JavaScript API.

  • It showcases various model manipulations such as scaling, positioning, and orienting 3D models on the map.

  • The code utilizes the Model3DElement class to create and control the display properties of the 3D models.

  • Developers can learn to integrate and interact with 3D models within their Photorealistic 3D map applications.

The following example shows how to add and modify models in 3D Maps in Maps JavaScript.

JavaScript

async function init() {
    // Import the needed libraries.
    const { Map3DElement, Model3DElement } =
        await google.maps.importLibrary('maps3d');

    const map = new Map3DElement({
        center: { lat: 39.1178, lng: -106.4452, altitude: 4395.4952 },
        range: 1500,
        tilt: 74,
        heading: 0,
        mode: 'HYBRID',
    });

    const model = new Model3DElement({
        src: 'https://maps-docs-team.web.app/assets/windmill.glb',
        position: { lat: 39.1178, lng: -106.4452, altitude: 4495.4952 },
        orientation: { heading: 0, tilt: 270, roll: 90 },
        scale: 0.15,
        altitudeMode: 'CLAMP_TO_GROUND',
    });

    document.body.append(map);
    map.append(model);
}

void init();

CSS

/*
 * Always set the map height explicitly to define the size of the div element
 * that contains the map.
 */
html,
map {
    height: 100%;
}
body {
    height: 100%;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
}

HTML

<html>

Clone Sample

Git and Node.js are required to run this sample locally. Follow these instructions to install Node.js and NPM. You will also need a Google Maps API key.

The following commands clone the repository, install dependencies, and copy the environment file.

  git clone https://github.com/googlemaps-samples/js-api-samples.git
  cd js-api-samples
  npm i
  cp .env.template .env

Once you copy the environment file, make sure to open the .env file and replace <Insert your own development API key here> with your actual API key before starting the sample.

  cd samples/3d-model
  npm start
