Ambassador Luigi Maria Vignali
Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organizations in Geneva since 13 January 2026
The Commission at its 71st session (9-10 April 2025) elected its new Bureau, with Italy as Chair and Kazakhstan and Montenegro as Vice-Chairs.
A career diplomat, Ambassador Vignali joined the diplomatic service in 1989, holding different positions, including Coordinator of the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union in Brussels, Consul General in Jeddah, Head of the Recruitment Office, and Head of the Coordination Unit at the Secretariat General.
In 2015, he held the position of Independent Evaluation Body of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and simultaneously served as Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority.
In 2017 he became Director General for Migration Policies, whereas in in 2025 he was appointed as the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Special Envoy for Italian nationals detained in Venezuela.
He graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of Rome in 1987.
