The eighty-eighth session of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee (ITC) took place at a time of profound transformation for both the United Nations system and the global transport landscape.
In this broader context, the high-level segment was dedicated to the theme “Driving Innovation for the Future of Inland Transport.” It provided an opportunity to reflect on the role and value added by the ITC and its subsidiary bodies within the evolving UN architecture under the UN80 initiative, while addressing the megatrends that were redefining the sector — from automation, artificial intelligence and digitalization to data‑driven governance.
The discussions explored how innovation can be responsibly harnessed through coherent, science‑based and interoperable regulatory frameworks to make inland transport safer, greener and more resilient for the future.
