Reservations

Firewood: Do not bring firewood into Vermont state parks from outside the state, unless it is packaged, labeled, and heat-treated. The label must show it is certified by the USDA or another state’s agriculture department. To learn more, view our Camping Policies and Rules.

How to Make a Reservation with Vermont State Parks

There are three ways to make a reservation.

Online

Visit our reservation website.

By Phone

Call the Reservation Call Center at 1-888-409-7579 (Monday–Friday, 9 am – 4 pm).

Call the Park

During the season, you can call the park directly.

Camping Policies

Vermont State Parks camping reservation policies are changing on February 11, 2026. Review the 2026 Camping Reservation Policy Updates for changes or the Camping Policies and Rules page for complete policies.

Reservation Timing

  • You can make a reservation up to 11 months in advance, and up to 2 pm on the day of arrival.
  • Same-day reservations can be made until 2 pm on the day of arrival online, through the call center, or by contacting the park directly.

Minimum Stay Rules

  • Reservations made more than 7 days in advance require a two-night minimum.
  • One-night stays are allowed within 7 days of arrival, any day of the week.
  • Exceptions:
    • Remote sites at Waterbury Reservoir, Osmore Pond, and Kettle Pond will continue to require a two-night minimum stay.
    • Individuals arriving at the park by hiking, bicycling, or paddling, as well as those camping in designated group camping areas, are still eligible to make 1-night reservations further than 7 days in advance.

Monthly Booking Schedule

Reservations will open daily, rolling 11 months in advance at 9 a.m.

For example, let’s say you want to book a reservation beginning on July 15, 2027. The earliest date you can make that reservation is August 15, 2026.

This gives you 30 or 31 opportunities each month instead of just one. This rolling window applies to all parks, including Burton Island.

Restrictions on Making Changes to Reservations

To keep reservations fair and prevent overbooking, reservations made on the first day a date becomes available have temporary change restrictions. These restrictions last for 22 days after the reservation is made.

During the 22 days, these first-day bookings cannot:

  • Change arrival and departure dates.
  • Cancel reservations.

During these 22 days, campers can still update reservation details, such as:

  • Camping unit
  • Number of people on the reservation

After the 22-day period ends, reservations may be changed or canceled as usual. This restriction does not apply to reservations booked later, once dates have been available for more than 22 days.

Please note: each site has a maximum stay limit (ranging from 7 to 21 consecutive nights per visit). After you reach that limit, you must wait 7 days before booking another site in the same park.

Competition for Popular Sites

When booking online, you have 15 minutes to complete your reservation after adding a site to your cart. If you don’t check out within that time, the site will go back into the system and be available for others to reserve.

Camping without Reservations

Feeling spontaneous? You can camp without a reservation if space is available. Most parks, even during summer, have a few open sites—especially on weekdays.

Please note: Vermont State Parks do not set aside sites just for drive-in campers.
